Editorial Policy
Who decides what wins, what money can and cannot buy here, and what happens when we get something wrong.
Independence
No recommendation on this site is influenced by what it pays us. Picks are chosen on performance against real current price for a stated use case, and commission rates play no part in that judgement — including when the product that wins earns us less than the one that came second.
We do not accept payment for placement, for coverage, or for a favourable verdict. There is no arrangement under which a manufacturer or retailer can buy a position in a guide, influence a score, or review a piece before publication.
How the site is funded
Through affiliate links. When you click a product link and buy something, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you. That is the entire commercial model, and it is disclosed on every article carrying such links as well as in the affiliate disclosure.
The obvious tension in that model is that we are paid when you buy something, which creates an incentive to recommend buying. We manage it in two ways: by saying plainly when a difference is too small to be worth paying for, and by being willing to conclude that the cheaper option is the right one. If a guide never told you to save your money, it would not be worth reading.
Sponsored content
Where a piece is paid for, it is labelled Sponsored permanently and prominently, at the top of the article and in every listing it appears in. Sponsored articles are also structurally excluded from the site’s editorial apparatus: they carry no winner, no shortlist, no comparison table, no score and no verdict, and they can never occupy the homepage editor’s pick. That exclusion is enforced in the code rather than left to someone remembering — a paid post cannot be presented as this site’s independently-argued answer, because the components that make that claim are not available to it.
Who writes this
Guides are published under a named byline, and each byline has a page listing everything published under it. If you want to know who stands behind a pick, that is where to look.
Sourcing
We work primarily from published performance data produced by established, independently verifiable labs and reviewers, cross-referenced against real retail pricing. Where a product has been handled in person, the guide says so; where it has not, it does not imply otherwise. Full detail is on the methodology page.
We do not publish invented statistics, fabricated testimonials, or numbers we cannot point to a source for. Where a score appears, it is an editorial judgement and is labelled as one.
Corrections
Hardware and pricing move fast, and manufacturers revise spec pages without notice. Two commitments follow from that:
- Guides are revisited as parts launch, get discontinued or get repriced. Any article that has been revised carries an “Updated” date alongside its original publication date, so you can judge how current it is.
- Errors get fixed rather than quietly buried. If a correction materially changes a recommendation, the article says what changed.
To report an error, use the contact form and select “A correction to a guide”. Tell us which article and what changed — specifics get fixed fastest.
