What we collect

Server logs

Like any web server, ours logs basic technical data for every request — IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamp — for security and to diagnose problems. These logs are kept only as long as needed for that purpose and are not used to build a profile of you.

Analytics

With your consent (see Cookies, below), we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which guides are useful and which need updating. This is aggregate traffic data — page views, rough location by country, referring site — not a record tied to your identity.

Comments

If you leave a comment, we store the name, email address, and content you submit, plus a hash of your IP for spam prevention. Your email is never published or shared.

If you subscribe, we store your email address solely to send the newsletter. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you immediately.

Location, for product links only

We serve readers across the UK and Europe. When you click a product link, we use your approximate location — derived from your IP address at that moment — to send you to the right regional Amazon store (for example amazon.co.uk, amazon.ie, or amazon.de) instead of one that may not ship to you or show your local price. This lookup happens at the moment you click; we do not store your location or link it to you afterwards. See our affiliate disclosure for more detail.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookie categories, and non-essential ones are only set if you agree — see our cookie policy for the full list, or use the control at any time to change your choice.

Who we share data with

Amazon Associates — when you click an affiliate link, Amazon receives the referral and standard e-commerce data; we do not receive or store your Amazon order details.
Analytics and hosting providers — process data on our behalf, under their own data protection obligations, solely to operate the site.

We do not sell personal data, to anyone, ever.

Your rights

Under the EU GDPR, and the UK GDPR if you are in the United Kingdom, you can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or object to how it is processed. Contact contact@bestofcomponents.com and we will respond within one month. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland, which is our supervisory authority. If you are elsewhere in the EU you can complain to your local data protection authority, and UK readers can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

If this policy changes materially, the date below will update and, where the change is significant, we will note it here.
